Discovering The Business You Were “Born To Do”

Updated: May 23, 2021

I've heard the phrase "that’s what I was born to do” my whole life in different situations.

Athletes say it all the time when talking about their career choice. Musicians use it to explain their amazing talents. I’ve even heard entrepreneurs tell it to me in regards to the business they are starting.

When I say I’m “born to do” something means that I’m stinking good at it! It’s borderline bragging, but humbly. It’s a confidence in my gifts and talents, letting the others around me know I can be trusted in this particular area.

I believe we were all born to do a particular business, it’s just some of us have found it, others are still searching, and even more, have no idea they were born… created… for something great.

So how can we all discover exactly what we were born to do?

First, we need to understand the exact words…. Born… To… Do?

The Bible says:

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb". (Psalms 139:13 NIV)

When you say you were born to do something, you’re saying 3 things:

  1. Born – God knit you together. He created you. He ordained your life to be born. He made it so that Alex Miranda would be born on October 22, 1980.

  2. To – You have been pre-positioned. In God’s great plan, your existence was thought of and planned out.

  3. Do – You’ve been called to live out the very thing you were fashioned in the womb for. A calling is an act to stand up, go, and do it.

To even say the words “I was born for this” is an acknowledgment that something out there pre-thought about your existence and is allowing you to exercise that calling today.

You might have heard people saying “I was born for this,” but do they really know what they are saying? Culturally, you say it as normal street language, but if you sit down to think about it, every time someone says it, Christian, or not, they are acknowledging the existence of a creator.

The Bible says:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)

The biggest problem humanity has our desire to take the credit for everything in our life, and not give credit to where credit is due.

When we find ourselves lost in a sea of endless to-do lists, bombarded with opportunities, and distracted by technology, it will be easy for us to get overwhelmed and wonder – what’s this all for, and I missing out on something more?

This is exactly where God wants us today! He wants us in a place of total dependence on Him and His calling over our business lives.

It’s at this exact point where you acknowledge and recognizes that He has a plan, and it’s your job to uncover, discover, and recover what has been yours from birth!

Today, we begin a journey to discover what God has us born to do in business. He created us Godpreneurs uniquely. To do this, our first step is to acknowledge and believe the words BORN TO DO are true in every sense of the individual words and the phrase altogether. It’s totally giving credit to the inventor, the creator, the originator of life.

When we give credit to where credit is due, our mindset changes about everything! Our focus changes as we connect our entire business’s existence to the way we were personally designed by God.

To find out exactly what we were born to do, we must be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Rom 12:2). Once our minds acknowledge our birthright, every decision can be tested against that calling. And once we're in that zone, we can throw off everything that hinders us from letting us run with perseverance the race marked out for us (Hebrews 12:1)

Welcome to what I was born to do….welcome, to the Born to Do Method.
