  • Perpetual Anxiety: The Silent Killer of Entrepreneurship (And How to Overcome It!)

If you call yourself a: Christian entrepreneur Kingdom-minded business owner A God-first brand And you walk hand-in-hand with God, following His purpose for you, you have no reason to be anxious for anything…for an extended period of time. The reason you make God your CEO, the reason we metaphorically "walk" with God and the reason Jesus died for us on the cross has to do with a transferring of our worries, stress, sins, concerns, and anxiety over to God so we can think clearly and remain in our zone of genius to keep pushing our companies forward. The Bible says: do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6) The key to overcoming anxiety in business is simply to not let yourself be caught in a state of PERPETUAL anxiety. You can't remove anxiety, but you can TRANSFER the anxiety to Him so you don't have to carry it. When we do this, the apostle Paul continues with "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. " (Philippians 4:7) Jesus takes our anxiety so we can be free to move about the marketplaces doing what we were born to do. Godpreneurs, it’s impossible to lead a life free of anxiety, but we can discover a life that is void of perpetual anxiety. #GodpreneurRule: Anxiety comes with business, but doesn't have to dominate us in our businesses.

  • How to Dedicate Your Business to God

There’s a song I dedicated to my wife before we were married.  It’s a beautiful song that captured my emotions at the time I dedicated it. Later on, I took her to the concert and the band played "our song."  That song eventually became our wedding song. I also played our song on the car ride home from the hospital with our new baby boy.  It brought us both to tears. What's the song? It's called "Two is Better Than One" by Boys Like Girls. I love the song because it's a reminder of my commitment to her. Sometimes I’ll play it when I’m mad at her because I know it brings my heart back in alignment. Dedicating that song to her was powerful and has helped me in good times and bad. I think we all know the power of dedication because we’ve experienced this in the past. Whether it was a dedication to your wife or a song dedicated to someone that hurt you, hearing the song brings up strong emotions for us. We have the ability to have similar emotions in our businesses by dedicating our businesses to God.  We dedicate things so that we create a bond between the two subjects. How amazing would it be to dedicate your business to God so that there is an eternal bond and a higher sense of purpose and passion as you continue building? The Bible shows us what that looks like as we read the final chapters of Nehemiah. Nehemiah 12:27-30 reads "At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were sought out from where they lived and were brought to Jerusalem to celebrate joyfully the dedication with songs of thanksgiving and with the music of cymbals, harps and lyres. The musicians also were brought together from the region around Jerusalem—from the villages of the Netophathites, from Beth Gilgal, and from the area of Geba and Azmaveth, for the musicians had built villages for themselves around Jerusalem. When the priests and Levites had purified themselves ceremonially, they purified the people, the gates and the wall." What´s going to happen now when people walk past the wall of Jerusalem? They will think of the time they dedicated it to God and the songs of praise and thanksgiving.  It will be a good memory impressed in their minds. Dedicating your business to God will add protection and align your heart with God’s.  It will give you a crutch to lean on during bad times. Similarly, it will give you a podium to speak from during the good times. When we dedicate something to God, we give it all to him. We hold nothing back. It is given in full and joyful surrender. It is all for God’s pleasure, all for his use, all for his glory. God’s desire is for us Godpreneurs to be like him…holy! (1 Peter 1.14-16). If we want to restore our businesses, we must first ask God to help us walk in holiness. Then, we will become “living stones being used to build a spiritual house” (1 Peter 2.5). How would you plan a dedication of your business to God? What elements would be included? What would such a celebration look like? A PRAYER OF BUSINESS DEDICATION God, we want to uplift your name among the people. Help us to dedicate ourselves and our businesses for your glory. Give us the encouragement we need, and remind us that you are always with us. I'm praying for you, too! • God as the Source of Power

I’m in a business partnership with another Godpreneur. It’s a beautiful thing because we go to the same church, we complement each other in the branding process, we bring God into our projects, and we’re both on the same page as to why we exist. But it wasn’t always this way for me. I was in a partnership before where we were NOT equally yoked. We both didn’t tap into the power of God, so there were weak spots in the partnership that eventually led to us going our separate ways. How do we get the most out of a Godpreneur partnership? How can we really do business God’s way as two or more people pursuing a venture? It comes down to making sure everyone is plugged into the source: the power of God. In my business, we have a number of electrical outlets. Many of them have the cords of electric lamps plugged into them. Behind those electrical outlets is all the power of our electric company. The amount of power that is there is incredible. But if I do not turn on a light switch, the office remains dark. With all that power, nothing happens until I do something. The same is true in your business partnerships. You have all the power of the God who created the universe. His power is endless. He designed partnerships in general and your joint venture in particular. He can make your business into something truly amazing, but you both have to invite Him in. The bible says: “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work". 2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV God has a plan for your season together as partners. He has the answers that you do not have. He wants to be the center of your business deals. Are you allowing Him to do that? Or are there things that are keeping you from putting God at the center? Are you ready as a partnership to invite Him in and see what He will do? If so, there are some practical things you can do to get started: Find a good church and go—every week. If possible, go to the same church as your partner. Pray for your partnership and for each other every day. Keep it simple. You can pray together at the office or separately—just focus on the same things. Read the Bible together. You do not have to be Bible scholars. Pick a book and read a few verses together. Talk together about what you read. Lead a bible study together with other Godpreneurs. Who knows, God might have some Divine connections there. That’s it. Try these things for sixty days and see what happens. I promise you that God will show up. God wants to be a part of your venture together. Now is the time to begin to let Him do that. It will grow you closer to each other and to Him. Are you ready to see what God will do in your business? Godpreneur Rule: God shows up in business partnerships when both of you invite Him in. #BusinessPartnerships #BusinessBibleStudy Finding Purpose In Your Business Partnership You and your business partner are unique individuals and God is creative in the way He wants to use both of your gifts together. • How you fight DOES make the difference

My partners and I used to get into big arguments. It ranged from how a particular project was handled, to fighting over roles and responsibilities, to disagreements on what a service should be priced at. But if I could do it all over again, I would argue differently. All of these topics we fought over the need to be talked about, but not the way I handled it at the time. I’m more grown up now, I’ve learned a lot in my walk with God, and my marriage has helped me tremendously on the topic of handling conflict. It’s no different in marriage than in business partnerships – HOW you fight makes the difference. We all get into disagreements with our business partners. Most partnerships are high conflict zones. It’s only natural that owning a business – when money is on the line, and reputation is at stake, and there are families to feed – produces a high-stress environment. But HOW we, as two entrepreneurs, argue will either strengthen our business or weaken it to the point of shutting down operations. So how do we argue? How do we disagree healthily? How can we have conflicting talks that build up and not tear down? The word of God has a lot to say about the way we communicate with each other. HOW we talk to each other will. Make all the difference. The bible says: "Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing". Proverbs 12:18 NLT Ultimately, you’ll need to change the way you speak if you want to have a healthy business partnership and a business that thrives. Here are some key takeaways I’ve picked up along the way. Don’t Talk Like Mom or Dad A big problem in partnerships is that we argue like we’re a parent scolding our child. When you say things like “You should do this!” or “You had better do that!”, You don’t resolve anything. It makes your partner defensive. You’re acting like an authority figure over them when, really, you are both at the foot of the cross playing at the same level. Instead, you have to talk adult-to-adult. You’re both equal, no matter what the percentage split is between partners. Next time you’re ticked off about something, talk about your feelings and how the action affected you instead of offering your unsolicited advice about how you would have done a better job. With this approach, your business partner won’t feel belittled or attacked. Don’t Let Things Escalate Another tip for business partners is not to let things escalate. When you reply to an email with something more hurtful, and carbon copies others to see it, you’re making it worst. When you raise your voice and cut your partner off, you’re adding fuel to the fire. You’re a Godpreneur. Stay calm, ask questions, and listen. Remember James. Be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger. When your business partner feels like they’ve been listened to, they’ll calm down, and now you can have a great meeting to improve whatever happened in the business to cause this argument. There are disagreements in every business partnership. Handled correctly, God can use that tension to make our businesses even stronger. #BusinessBibleStudy #BusinessPartnerships Finding Purpose In Your Business Partnership You and your business partner are unique individuals and God is creative in the way He wants to use both of your gifts together. • Prayer Before Starting a Business Project

I love starting new projects. I believe the reason I'm in branding and not marketing is that branding is the "start" of a business. And my multiple businesses is even more evidence of my love for starting things However, I'd be kidding myself if I told you that I didn't feel overwhelmed sometimes when launching a new project. A lot of the work I do is so spiritually charged and will have a major impact on my life and the lives of others that the pressure can be immense. Oftentimes, right at the beginning of a project, the enemy starts to plant seeds of doubt in my mind; I feel alone and I'm tempted to back out. However, we God-first business owners know that God is always there at our side, ready to give His blessing that will strengthen us. The Bible says: I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. (Psalms 121:1-2) God wants to help you, but you have to lift your eyes up to Him and ask for help in your business. God wants us to acknowledge that whatever project we are launching - whether it’s a new business, a marketing initiative, or a new blog series - can only be accomplished through His power. The prayer below will help us orient our minds and hearts toward God and give him the wheel for our next major business project. It may feel weird, but if we get in this habit, we'll be guided every step of the way, thus assuring that the outcome is God's will. Father, I come before you, and through the power of Jesus Christ, I take on this new project. Consecrate this endeavor through your hands to your glory. I call on the Holy Spirit to help me execute this new initiative in a manner that honors you and puts a smile on your face. You know that I can't do anything without you; I'm powerless except through Christ who strengthens me. Lord, give me the necessary assistance to accomplish your will in the marketplace. Search me, Lord, and remove anything that would not have me observing your faithful laws of justice. Keep me free from sin throughout the execution of this project. Father, take charge of all the plans. Give me wisdom beyond my years, power beyond my own strength, and bless me with the joy of being able to serve you, once again, through the gift of entrepreneurship. You are good, you are holy, you are eternal, and my life's work is for you. Amen. #WheretoStartFirst #EnhanceFocus

  • How to Make Both Your Marriage and Business Blessable - At the Same Time!

I’m constantly cheering my son on, praising him for his accomplishments, and even cheering him up when he fails. I’m not naturally a cheerleader, and my father wasn’t a cheerleader, so I didn’t have it modeled in my life. It wasn’t until I read books on parenting that I discovered that I needed to constantly be letting my son know that I’m proud of him. It does something for his self-esteem. What’s fascinating is that my mom was a huge cheerleader in my life, yet something was missing because my father didn’t. It’s almost like it didn’t matter who else praised me – if my father didn’t, then anywhere else would fall short of filling that need. Listen, we also need to hear praises in our business and marriage. It fuels the business; it gives passion to the marriage. Praises are a powerful source of energy that we all need. But our earthly dads are no longer in the picture. Sure, they may still be alive, but that need for praise and approval we get from dad was in our early years. Now…now it’s time to seek the praises of our heavenly father. We entrepreneurs often go about our days checking how many likes our post got, how many people opened the email, and how many new signups to our business. And then we get home, and we want our spouse to tell us how proud they are of our accomplishments and for our children to come up and thank us for laboring all day to bring the food to the table and keep the lights on. Or even worse, we seek approval from people we don’t even like! How many of us dream of the day that we make more money than that competitor that always seemed to beat us for contracts? If we want to experience breakthroughs in our business and marriage, we should seek the praises of our Heavenly Father only – not our spouse, children, employees, vendors, contractors, or competitors. The bible says Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God. (John 12:42‭-‬43 NIV) Even the biggest religious leaders at the time of Jesus were caught up in pleasing others. You’re not alone. This is part of the enemy’s plan to take you off your game, distract you from your calling and have you living a life that doesn’t follow God’s will, but instead the world’s will. And this is precisely why you’re in the situation of needing a breakthrough in your business and marriage. But we’re going to fix that… TODAY! So the formula is for us to get our praises from our heavenly father, right? So how do we get His praises? We start by seeking and implementing what His will is for our business and marriage. We have to uncover the purpose of it all. We have to understand that our business was allowed to be created because the creator of the universe wants to use it for His purpose. We have to know that the marriage to our spouse was meant for more than just sex, companionship, and sharing of responsibilities. When we discover what our business and marriage was born to do, and we live and live doing just that, we are implementing God’s will for our life, and the praises come down from above! But we must let go of any idols we’ve brought into the office or bedroom. The business or marriage itself can become an idol we’ve placed above God! Our children and employees can become idols that we worship more than God. When we put God first in our business and marriage, and follow His will, we will not only have a fulfilled life, but we will obtain the praises of the Heavenly Father – praises that our earthly father was only supposed to give in our youth while we couldn’t comprehend what God was…but now we do. Now it’s on us, not on our parents’ past shortcomings. God expects us to be doing what He created us to do. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” I rest my case. If we’re not doing what God created and designed us to do, then this Bible verse is wrong, and the whole Bible is wrong. We know this isn’t the case 😉. Godpreneurs, let’s start today by listening to our hearts, asking God how our life can be used to give Him praise. We need to stop living a self-fulfilled life seeking the praises of man, and let God begin to use our businesses and marriages for His purpose! Then we’ll receive God’s praises, and we’ll begin to experience the breakthroughs we’ve been seeking in this season. Godpreneur Rule: Godpreneurs constantly ask God to reveal how we can be used by God and receive His praises in our businesses and marriages. #BusinessBibleStudy #MarriedEntrepreneurs 21 Days of Breakthroughs in Business and Marriage This course provides needed strength and faith, in the truth of God’s holy Word, for breakthroughs in both your business and marriage. • Lusting for Things vs Trusting in Your Calling – It’s One or the Other

Lust isn’t just for sexual desires, it can be for our desires in business too! Maybe what you crave is dreams of money and entrepreneurial fame. This starts to consume your mind and overwhelm your soul’s purpose in business. Or maybe it’s something material: that 2nd home near Disney, that shiny Ferrari, that sweet RV. You wake up thinking about everything you’ll buy once you figure it all out, and go to sleep with it on your heart. The Bible says, But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. (Ephesians 5:3 NIV) Whatever you lust after in business, it takes every ounce of restraint a God-First entrepreneur can muster to hold ourselves back from plowing headlong after it. Why? Because lust makes even the strongest Godpreneur weak. Let’s all get in the habit of pointing our feet away from the temptation—and turning our eyes away from it. What is it doing on our vision boards anyway? We shouldn’t be putting ourselves in that position. We Kingdom-minded entrepreneurs need to practice common sense and good judgment, know our weaknesses, and shore up our defenses. #StrengthenIntegrity
