- 13 Things Waiting on God in my Business Taught Me
We donāt live in a business culture today where people are willing to be patient and wait on Godās work, on his time frame. God has a reason when He doesnāt move as quickly as you want Him to move on that big contract. Thereās a reason why He doesnāt move as rapidly as you want him to move on that new hire. That waiting in the Lord is a good thing for us entrepreneurs accustomed to taking things into our own hands. The waiting keeps that hope and that expectation in God, the Chairman of your Board of Directors, looking for Him to work that contract, and staying abound and connected to Him. See, the issue with us grinders and hustlers and go-getters is that we're prone to forgetting God is at the wheel guiding things. Instead, we take matters into our own hands because that's the leader in us. However, there are two types of leaders: - Those who patiently wait on the Lord - Those who don't trust in God's timing and promises and take matters into their own hands. From experience, taking action when you should have waited makes your situation even worse than what it already was. As a God-First business owner, waiting patiently means that: I'm going to have an attitude of hope and expectation along my entrepreneurial pilgrimage. Iām determined to stay connected to the Lord. I'm not going to backslide. Iām not going to get tired of waiting for that client to pay me. Iām not going to cuss God out when a launch doesn't go as planned. Iām not going to walk away from the business partnership that God brought together in the first place. Iām not going to quit on my calling. Iām not going to grow weary when I don't see a change in my industry. Iām not going to get frustrated when my partner isn't pulling his weight. Iām just going to buckle down and sit right here because Iām expecting God to move. I'm expecting God to do something. Iām not going to quit. Iām expecting him to work it out. Proverbs 3:5 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your understanding. Christian entrepreneurs, listen. We are like patients in a hospital, calling the doctor for advice. What do you do as a patient when you call the doctor? Youāre not telling the doctor what to do. Youāre waiting on the doctor to tell you what to do, right? #WaitingOnGod
- How to End a "Waiting Seasonā God Has Your Business In
Many times in business, when we feel like God isn't doing anything, He's really in the boardroom crafting page after page of your business plan. He's fully engaged and invested in every detail of our daily operations. He is never on break; thereās no vacation time for God. Since giving my business over to God, I've come to realize that we never grow spiritually when everything in our business life is just the way we want it to be. I mean, look, you can learn things at church or in Bible reading, but that's just head knowledge. The only way you know what you really believe is to have it put to the test. We can sing about trusting God. We can talk about trusting God. However, you don't know whether or not you trust God with your entire business until something happens in your company that makes no sense. You feel like itās very unjust and not right, and you can't get any answers from God, and you donāt feel like Heās anywhere in the building, and youāre waiting, and youāre waiting, waiting, and waiting. Thatās when you find out if you trust God. When you get to this point of trust on your Godpreneurial journey, you're ready for your Jericho moment. Walls will come down. You'll take your rightful place in your marketplace. Get ready for your land of milk and honey! The Bible says Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? (James 2:5 ESV) In Godpreneurship, the Lord wants us to believe Him, to trust Him, to wait on Him with the right attitude - a believing attitude like what the apostle James was teaching to the early Christians. When I'm in a waiting situation in my business, I always tell myself, "God is grinding." You need a catchy phrase to say to yourself when you're in this situation. I started doing this, and itās really helpful. When Iām waiting on a big proposal, and I begin to think about how long itās been, and my mind starts to go negative, I say out loud: āGOD IS GRINDING,ā and it helps me because I truly believe He is. You realize that when you get a breakthrough in business, God didnāt start just working on that a second before you got it. Godās working on your business right now. Heās heard your prayers. Heās working in your situation. For entrepreneurs, faith is when you donāt see anything happening in your business, when the journey doesnāt feel right, and when you have questions that youāre not getting answers to. Faith is a matter of the entrepreneur's heart. Faith-filled Godpreneurs believe that God is working and that something good will happen, even when everything around them looks the exact opposite. I'm always in situations that don't make any "business sense," but I believe in God. I think God is grinding. I have faith that something good is going to happen to me. I wholeheartedly believe the situation is going to change. #WaitingOnGod

- How to Find Common Ground with Your Business Partner
My business partner and I have great chemistry together because we both are on the same page about a few critically important areas of our business. First, we both give to the church. Second, we both have the same calling of helping people and companies figure out what God created them uniquely to be and do in the marketplace. Third, we believe every business has a way to put God first in the way it operates. If weāre going to succeed in a business partnership, finding and maintaining common ground will be paramount to the success. Itās ok to be different in so many areas, but how we approach the business spiritually, financially, and emotionally needs to be in common. When entrepreneurs canāt agree on financial principles together, like where you cut cost and where you spend money, it can be a significant source of frustration. When the two partners donāt see the importance of each otherās spiritual growth as paramount to the entire business, thenĀ the business wonāt grow as fast as it could. God wants us as Godpreneurs in business partnerships to make a commitment to build on a shared vision and move toward a common purpose. When we do this, our businesses embrace Godās big purpose for our joining together in the venture. The Bible says "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil". (Ecclesiastes 4:9) When you and your partner start a business together and share common goals, the reward is better because youāve built your business on the common ground. When the forks in the road of business success come, you guys wonāt be easily divided in the direction youāre headed in because youāll share a fundamental common ground. Do you want to experience perfect oneness in your business partnership? The more of these ācommon ground examplesā you share, the better the partnershipās purpose can shine You do most important things together like big meetings, tradeshows, and networking events. You share traits in common, like cultural or past experiences You both teach and instruct together about your services, products, and the brand message You impact others together so greatly that you gain respect and favor from everyone you guys meet Do you want to grow together, spiritually, with your business partner? Then each of you needs to: Individually decide to connect with God every morning Go to church (doesnāt have to be the same church) so you each can keep knowing God more Make time to connect with God, together. My business partner and I have lunch 2-3 times per week, and we purpose to take the conversations to God and let Him speak to us at this time. Do you and your business partner want to know the secret to being on the same page financially? This one starts with realizing the entire reason the business exists is that itās a gift from God. When you walk around your business with a mindset that everything comes from God and belongs to God, youāre able to make wise decisions in the direction of your purpose. What this mindset does is alleviate the pressure of ownership and positions us as caretakers over Godās property. Heās the CEO, youāre both co-Presidents that have been hired to run the business His way. Itās His purpose, His mission, His vision, and you both steward the financial profits towards His desires. Just ask your partner: āGod, what do You want us to do with Your profits?ā Weāre all busy. Entrepreneurs especially. Thereās a lot we do and oversee. We have packed calendars. But as Godpreneurs in a partnership, we need to connect together and commit to fellowship. Our families should be hanging out together, we should be growing together. If we want blessings, significance, purpose, and connection in our partnerships, we need to build on common groundāspiritually, financially, and emotionally. If we can, we will indeed see that two is, in fact, better than one. Godpreneur Rule: Godpreneurs build on common ground with our business partners to better expand business and influence together. #BusinessBibleStudy #BusinessPartnerships Finding Purpose In Your Business Partnership You and your business partner are unique individuals and God is creative in the way He wants to use both of your gifts together. - Itās How You Finish
Iāve been doing CrossFit since 2010. Itās a full-body workout that requires every ounce of your attention and commitment for a period. From beginning to end, youāre supposed to give it all. Workouts could be 7 to 25 minutes longā¦but it feels like hell when youāre in the middle of it. Iāve quit halfway through many times because I canāt take it. The times I quit, I feel terrible because I know I didnāt complete it. The times I finish it, I feel like Iām on top of the world. Thereās a saying in CrossFit that goes āItās not how you start, itās how you finish.ā Itās the same philosophy and mindset when weāre trying to restore the relationship with our business partners after a period of fighting. Whether weāve been fighting for hours or years, choosing to fight well and restore the union is the only way the business will succeed. When weāre in the middle of a fight with our business partners, and weāre looking to resolve that issue we have, itās important to know that itās easier to start the restoration process than to finish it. Halfway through, we want to quit. An issue will resurface that threatens the entire process and send us back into the crazy cycle. Or, even worst, we think weāve resolved the issue when the problem is much deeper and more work needs to be done to uproot the problem, but we believe we are good to move on and keep running the business. The bible says: "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up". Galatians 6:9 NIV Donāt quit halfway through your recovery with your business partner. When a business partnership is in need of healing, you might think to work through conflict until the pain goes away, especially since there are a business to run and mouths to feed. Just make sure the deeper issues causing the trouble are corrected. We should not quit halfway through a resolving of a fight with our partners. With Godās help, we need to work on getting through the underlying problems, not just the pain they cause us and the business. #BusinessPartnerships #BusinessBibleStudy Finding Purpose In Your Business Partnership You and your business partner are unique individuals and God is creative in the way He wants to use both of your gifts together. - Fighting for Fairness
I remember my partner and I would get into these nasty email wars. Weād even copy our other partner who had nothing to do with anything. The first email would be some snarky remark. Then the reply would step it up a notch. Finally, the emails would turn to anger and insults and all-out war would ensue. Upon reflection, I think I would reply with insults and anger because thatās what I felt was being delivered to me. It was only fair, right? If he could insult me, especially copying my partner, that give me the open the door to do the same back, right? Playing fair is great when youāre my toddler son learning soccer for the first time. Playing fair is okay for my kid at the park. But playing fair in business partnerships can ruin the union and friendship like it did for me. We naturally think an eye for an eye, good for good and bad for bad. Playing fair is returning exactly what was done to us. It means we give our business partners precisely what they deserve when they do something good or bad to usā¦ ā¦but thatās not what Godpreneurs in partnerships do. The bible says: "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you". Ephesians 4:32 ESV Playing fair works for everyone when itās nice things being done. But when youāre disrespected by your partner, thatās when the Christian is tested. You can yell and insult back. You can talk bad about them like they did about you. You can let them give him what he deserves. Unfortunately, many business partnerships operate on this premise, and itās a significant reason why businesses of partnerships fail. But we also have the OTHER choice. As Godpreneurs, we can put aside what our business partner deserves and respond by giving them what they need ā for us to rise above the offense and help them be better, not simply get even with them. We have the opportunity to express Godās grace. We can meet our business partners mistakes with a response that heals and moves the business to a whole new level. Imagine, especially if our partner isnāt Christian if we all did this? It would enable our business partnerships to grow, rather than further deteriorate. - How Entrepreneurs Connect with God Every Morning
The wisest thing business owners can do to start every day is to get connected with almighty God. The wisest thing we entrepreneurs can do is decide that from this point on, before getting out of bed, we're going to connect with the President of our board of directors. Monday through Friday, every morning, we're going to pray something like: "Lord, I thank you that you have a plan for my business today. I thank you, Lord, that your timing is perfect. I thank you that you're bringing whatever you need to bring. Youāll protect me. Youāll guide me. Youāll lead me. If I go through any kind of suffering and hurt and disappointment and all the rest, Iāll trust you to bring me through that. Lord, I want to thank you that today Iām going to walk obediently before you. Iām going to trust the Holy Spirit to do the speaking in me to give me guidance and direction and give me your timing. Whatever you have for me and my business, Iām available to wait. I know that waiting will grow me, strengthen me, prepare me for what you have in my marketplace. I want to thank you for this day, and Lord, let my business be fruitful all day long." When you begin the business day that way, all of a sudden, even on the darkest of days youāve ever seen on your entrepreneurial journey, the sunās going to be brilliant. You know why? Because you are connecting with the owner and financier of your business, God will answer every single prayer that I mentioned. Itās His timing. Itās His way. Itās His plan. The Bible says: But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, āYou are my God!ā My future is in your hands." As a business owner, you can say, "the future of my business is in your hands. (Psalms 31 14:15) Have you ever prayed like that about your business? You might want to memorize that verse and pray it every morning before you get up and begin the hustle and grind. You can pray something like: āI trust you, Lord, youāre my God, and my times are in your hands. God, I have more to-do's today than I have time to get done. I have so many appointments thereās no way I get it all done. Help me sort it all out, do what matters most in my business, and not worry about the rest. My calendar is in your hand. I surrender my schedule. I surrender my agenda. I give you my marketing plans. My times are in your hands, and that means Iām not going to fear. Iām going to trust you." If I ask you today whose business schedule do you live by, youāll probably say, āwell, by my own." And that's natural because, as entrepreneurs, we are self-employed, self-starting, and self-motivated. However, in your daily agenda or monthly marketing calendar, where is God in all that? Do you ever stop to ask him, "God, what you think about Thursday? What do you want in Quarter 3?" When you get up in the morning and get yourself dressed, get into your mode of transportation, and head to your office, do you ever stop asking God what His plan is for the business today? Do you ever stop to ask the question, "what would you have me do with my next 8 hours?" And when you're checked out from the business and on your way back to your family for the evening, do you ever ask: "Lord, how would you want me to spend this evening?" As impossible as that might seem, being that entrepreneurship feels like a 24/7 job, it's imperative that we God-First business owners stop and think, āHow do you want to work in my family life this evening?" Most business owners will get up, do their little morning routine, and take off and never say anything to God until they get that first order cancellation or the first encounter with an irritating employee. The day starts to get overwhelming and stressful, and then there's the first connection, the first cry out to God for help. That is not what He intended. God intended that when you wake up in the morning, you get connected. It's not some 20-step ritualistic routine to bog you down. You simply start talking to Him with statements similar to these: Father, thank you for a good nightās rest; you know what lies ahead of me today in my business. Lord, I want to run my entrepreneurial race in your timing; don't let me get ahead, donāt let me linger behind, donāt let me step out of your calling over me. God, let me lead my company wisely today in your will so that tonight Iāll be able to look back and thank you for all that youāve done. Every morning when I wake up, I remind myself that my marketplace is a 24/7 mission field. No matter what I'm doing - if Iām on a zoom call with my team, if Iām at a client's office, if Iām filming a marketing piece for my branding agency - Iām on a mission for Jesus. Listen, Godpreneurs, customers who meet you should meet Jesus. It doesnāt mean you look like him; it means the spirit within you is the same spirit of Jesus Christ. Remind yourself every day that God, the creator of the universe, loves you, and He has his eyes on your business dealings. You are His chosen representative in your industry, and He has called you to provide great services and products in the marketplace. When we all make it a daily morning habit to think about what God has done for our entrepreneurial journey, itās going to bring joy, meaning, and purpose into our business lives and marketplaces worldwide. #WheretoStartFirst
