Overwhelmed by "Entrepreneur Influencers" on Social Media? Discover What God Says about Them.

As I scroll through social media, so many different business gurus want to convince me that their methodology is the best way for me to grow my agency.  Clips of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos giving talks at conferences pop into my feed and I listen because…well…these guys are trillionaires and I could probably pick up a golden nugget or two to take to my company, right?

But the truth is that I'm only hearing a little part of the content being shared.  I don't know the whole story from beginning to end.  I have no idea what phase of the entrepreneurial journey these guys are on, so I'm not even sure if these bits of wisdom would even be applied correctly into my current business situation.

The fact is that there's way too much information out there being shared for me to even know where to begin.  It's overwhelming and almost stifles me.  I get paralysis by analysis and I end up doing none of it because I already forgot about it and I keep scrolling to the next guy’s advice.

I want to be prosperous and successful, like these other guys online.  I want the chaos of the rollercoaster of entrepreneurship to go away, and be replaced by the peace of knowing I'm financially stable.

But how do I get there when there are so many ideas and methods that trap me in a state of anxiety, overwhelm, and a feeling like I'm never doing enough?

After studying the word discernment in the Bible, and after months of prayer over my feelings of overwhelm surrounding my desires for success and prosperity, I come to the conclusion that there's only one solution to this problem:  the Lord wants me to direct 100% of my focus and attention to Him, and only Him.

The Bible says in Proverbs 2:6-15 NIV:

[6] For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. [7] He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, [8] for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. [9] Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. [10] For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. [11] Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. [12] Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, [13] who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways, [14] who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, [15] whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways.

Proverbs teaches us Kingdom-driven entrepreneurs that knowledge, peace, understanding, success, prosperity, true wisdom, and discernment all come from the Lord.

Sure, it's easier to scroll Instagram and pick up 90 second golden nuggets from these gurus. It’s easy to search online for answers on how to successfully grow a business and read many New York Times best sellers for the path to wealth and prosperity.  It's much harder to carve out 1 hour every morning to read the Bible, meditate on it, and wait for the Holy Spirit to reveal a golden nugget.

However, King Solomon, the writer of this Proverb, emphasizes God as the source of wisdom.  Those Godpreneurs who earnestly seek Him will be granted knowledge and understanding.

The text makes clear that the Lord bestows wisdom - wisdom needed for running a successful business. From His mouth comes knowledge and comprehension.

Discernment is a divine gift, requiring an “all-in” relationship with God.

We don't need to consume any more business books.  We don't need to follow any other gurus.  God graciously imparts wisdom to Godpreneurs who sincerely seek Him. God’s wisdom is reserved for those who run businesses righteously and strive to follow His ways. An entrepreneur with integrity operates in genuine inner alignment with Biblical principles. He or she demonstrates to the marketplace a heart transformed and in love with God.

What if success and prosperity in business was really all about running a business in peace and inner alignment?

God guards the paths of justice and watches over His faithful marketplace ministers (yes, that's you!). Walking in His wisdom provides protection and guidance along our entrepreneurial journey, acting as a safeguard that steers us along the right path and shields us from harm. Adhering to God’s Word for running our business ensures we operate on safe ground. This does not guarantee the absence of our companies failing or our product launches from bombing, but it prevents our own foolishness from being the source.

And if I'm “less foolish,” could that lead me to profit more in my business?  Close another deal?  Negotiate a better rate?  Lose one less client or employee?  Yes!

When you embrace God’s wisdom for operating your business, you gain an understanding of righteousness, justice, equity, and every good path. Rejecting worldly wisdom and embracing God’s wisdom leads us to run businesses characterized by understanding and righteousness. We attain clarity on what is just and fair in the marketplace according to God’s standards, not the world’s. We gain a discerning heart that delights in God’s truth, experiences peace, and is wholly satisfied.

I don't know about you, but PEACE in my business would check off the box of “success” in my book.

Living by God's wisdom also means rejecting the ways of the wicked by turning away from evil influences and rejecting values that contradict God’s Word. The wicked forsake uprightness, rejoice in evil, and delight in perversity. As Kingdom driven business owners, we are called to reject these paths, remaining steadfast on the path of righteousness - the path where success and prosperity abounds!

Reflect on the source of the entrepreneurial wisdom and discernment you currently seek. Are you turning to God and His Word, or are you being influenced by Instagram’s views of business success and prosperity?
